چکیده

We present new FUSE spectroscopy of the dwarf starburst galaxy NGC625. These observations probe multiple phases of the interstellar medium, including the coronal, ionized, neutral and molecular gas. This nearby (D = 3.9± 0.2 Mpc) system shows a clear detection of outflowing coronal gas as traced by O VI λ 1032 Å absorption. The centroid of the O VI profile is blueshifted with respect to the galaxy systemic velocity by ∼ 30 km s, suggesting a low-velocity outflow. The implied O VI velocity extent is found to be 100 ± 20 km s, which is fully consistent with the detected H i outflow velocity found in radio synthesis

The Chandra view of NGC 1800 and the X-ray scaling properties of dwarf starbursts

The superb spatial resolution of Chandra is utilized to study the X-ray morphology of the dwarf starburst galaxy NGC1800 embedded in a small group of galaxies. Diffuse galactic emission is detected, extending several kpc above the galactic plane, with an overall morphology similar to the galactic winds seen in nearby X-ray bright starburst galaxies. This makes NGC1800 the most distant dwarf sta...

The Starburst - Interstellar Medium Interaction in NGC 1569 I . Location and Nature of He ii Sources

We present the detection of He ii sources in the Im galaxy NGC 1569 from HST WFPC2 imagery. Out of the fifteen detections, seven were Wolf-Rayet stars, five were stellar clusters with associated He ii emission, and three were sources of unknown origin. The detected Wolf-Rayet stars’ colors and magnitudes are similar to Large Magellanic Cloud late-type WN stars. The physical origin of the other ...

Near-infrared integral-field spectroscopy of violent starburst environments

Near-infrared (NIR) integral-field spectroscopy (IFS) of violent starburst environments at high spatial (and spectral) resolution has the potential to revolutionise our ideas regarding the local interactions between the newly-formed massive stars and the interstellar medium (ISM) of their host galaxies. To illustrate this point, I present NIR IFS analysis of the central starburst region of NGC ...

Formation and evolution of late - type dwarf galaxies . I . NGC 1705 and NGC 1569

We present one-zone chemical evolution models for two dwarf starburst galaxies, NGC 1705 and NGC 1569. Though especially designed for the inner ∼ 1 kpc region, where numerous H II regions and most of the stars are observed, the models also account for the presence of extended gaseous and dark matter haloes, and properly compute the binding energy of the gas heated by supernova explosions. Using...
